Last Updated: 25th July 2001 Unfortunately there are a couple of pages of rules here Too many rules makes things too complex, too few rules make the ladder a free-for-all. Im trying to keep things a simple as possible ( honest!) Rule Number 1: Read and understand all of the rules. If you cant be bothered, then youre not serious enough about online racing. If so, dont compete in the ladder. If you dont understand the rules, or Ive not made things clear, please ask Challenges You may challenge any driver whos 1 or 2 positions above your current position in the ladder. If the challenger wins, that driver moves up the ladder to the position occupied by the losing driver. If the challenger loses, the ranking remains unchanged. To make a challenge, email the driver ( challangee) also, you MUST post the challenge to the ESTC Challenge message board. Challenges should be raced within 1 week of the challenge being posted to the board. It is up to both drivers to be fair and reasonable in terms of scheduling the race time. If agreement cant be reached, the challenger should inform the ladder administrator. The ladder administrator may nullify the challenge, or give the challenger a walk-over, depending upon who is being the most unreasonable J New Players Anyone wishing to join the ladder will have one opportunity to challenge for any position in the ladder from position 5 or lower. If they win, they will take that position, otherwise they will begin at the lowest rank on the ladder. Hint : New players should arrange some informal races with ladder members to see where they should challenge in. Race venue and race conditions The Ladder administrator will determine the track and race to be used for all challenges. These will be posted at the club website. You must keep 2 wheels on the tarmac at all times except for when you spin or crash. Reporting Results The race loser should post the race result to the ESTC Challenge message board immediately after the race. Official Protests To help resolve disputes, due to excessive enthusiasm, bad sportsmanship etc, both drivers should record a replay of the race. You should only raise an official protest if you have clear evidence that your opponent acted in an unfair/unsporting manner. Report the protest to the ladder administrator along with screenshots of the incident. IMPORTANT : If you cause a crash and you know that it was due to your mistake, please wait for your opponent to get back their track position before resuming battle. This will minimise the number of protests. Challenge Priority Once a valid challenge has been made, the race should take place even if the gap between drivers increases to more than 2 places before raceday. [ it would be very frustrating if you had waited a week to race, only to have it cancelled because the other driver had moved 'out of reach' ] You're racing for the ladder positions on raceday, not the ones on challenge day. This keeps it simple to admin, maximises the number of races and keeps things bubbling.... Example1 : Player #4 has challenged #3, but then receives a challenge from player #6. If #4 beats #3, the challenge from #6 is still valid should be played within 1 week of the original challenge date Player #6 may leap-frog to position #3 if he wins Example2: 1st July: Player #5 accepts a challenge from player #6 . they arrange a time to race. 4th July: Player #7 challenges player #5.. Challenge is queued 6th July : Player #5 and # 6 race. ( within the 1 week ). 13th July : Regardless of the result of the previous race. Player #5 and #7 must race before the 13th July. The winner will take the current ladder position of the higher ranked of the two racers.( which is either position #5 or #6 depending on who won the previous race) Responding To Challenges You will race your challenge-ups as and when you arrange a suitable time with the higher driver. The number of challenges you make will depend on your free time and desire to move up the ladder. As for responding to challenges from below, If you do not have an existing challenge-down scheduled , you should accept and race a challenge within 1 week of it being made. If more than 1 driver challenges you, you can, if youre too busy, queue the additional challenges until after the first is raced. The second challenge becomes live as soon as the first challenge is raced and should be raced within 1 week. Dont queue challenges if you can find the time to race them The ability to queue is to allow a driver to delay a race if they felt pressured into having to race unreasonably often .We believe that one race /week as a reasonable minimum requirement. Feel free to race more if you can. Time Penalties If you put all 4 wheels on the grass/gravel , but do not gain any time because of it, there will be no time penalty. If , on certain tracks there are corners/chicanes where it would be possible to gain time by shortcutting, the ladder administrators will publish a suitable time penalty for that corner before racing starts ... Whilst it is the primary responsibility of the driver to confess to such incidents, it is advised that each driver replay your opponents race to validate their race.. At some tracks as Oulton Park, it is possible to take a major shortcut across the circuit. Any such shortcut would cause the driver to be immediately banned from the ladder unless they admit their mistake immediately and forfeit the race. Again, we suggest each driver replays their opponents race to double check... Vacation etc Any driver who is unavailable, due to business commitments, vacation etc. should notify the ladder administrator. The two drivers below him will then be allowed to challenge around/above that driver e.g if #6 is on vacation, #7 can challenge #5 and #4. #8 can challenge #7 and #5 Any existing challenge will still stand, even if #6 becomes available again before the race has occurred. Consequently, a driver who is unavailable, may move slowly down the ladder.
